Edited 5 years agoThe Staalplaat years were magical, and "Fallen Gods" (along with "Vernal Crossing") stands as a testament to that: truly ambient and utterly timeless, each piece like a world unto itself. Listening to it is akin to stargazing or watching the clouds by or the river flow. Perfect music to lose yourself in.

Edited 6 years agoFirst album/cd I ever owned and it was thru this official exposure I began to open my ears to ambient music on a different level.
Rapoons early music(as I have not kept up with him over the years) is composed of archeological sounds picked up from here there and everywhere and cut up, sampled, re-sampled and coerced into a highly exotic hypnotic concoction of audio travelogue.
You can pick up on African/Indian rhythms, chants and string instrumentation but there is no definitive and clinical sound structure at least in the true forms of the rhythms origins. This is what makes Rapoons music so intelligent and unconventional to the average pop/jazz/ambient listener is that is got form but not in a true western fashion.
The music is not dissonant nor is it melodic but it is other-worldly and meditative in a sense without mimicking modern day pioneers in the ambient landscape such as Eno, Roach etc.
Take a listen with an open mind and let the beauty of this music reveal itself unto you. Also recommend Errant Angels, Vernal Crossing & Recurring Dream Circle!
