I've got this French Original Violator from 2016.
I've got also The 2006 SACD but I refuse to compare Vinyl with CD.
The Original is more open and clear, the highs are very present but the bass are shy. The recording breathes but it's quickly tiring to the ears, there's something aggressive and a little bit garish. All the album misses dynamic in the low frequencies."Waiting for the night" has a light sibilance. The dead wax is short but not very tight.
It's still a good pressing and... the original sound.
The 2007 is, for me, a nice improvement. The dynamic is better balanced between high and low, the bass are more present but not overdubbed. The highs are never garish and are detailed. The whole is never tiring. A little bit less expressive and showy but not muddy.
It's very difficult to say if it's better than the original because it's quite different.
The vinyl itself is not perfectly quiet, with very few tics but still very nice after a good cleaning.
Always the same light sibilance on "Waiting for the night", unfortunately.
The dead wax is similar to the original.
This is an excellent reissue.
The 2016 is quite similar to the 2007 but a little less dynamic on bass and less detailed on highs (I needed to compare song by song to feel the light difference). The dead wax is larger on this pressing and, probably for this reason, "waiting for the night" doesn't suffer from a big sibilance, just a light one remaining.
The vinyl is perfectly flat and dead quiet, perfect on this point.
This pressing is still excellent and this version has the best presentation with the cover "soft touch" which is very elegant but more fragile.
I rate Original 8/10, The 2007 8/10 and the 2016 7/10

Tremendous pressing! I have a very high end revealing system (Linn, McIntosh, B&W) and this pressing sparkles! Very well done remastering.

I've compared this pressing with the german first pressing and the remastered CD. The german first pressing wins by far. This remastered pressing has cut off highs and it's less dynamic. My guess is they used the same digital remaster for this pressing as for the remastered CD, they sound quite similar (though the LP is still better).
For the best sounding version of this album, get an original pressing on vinyl! -

Edited 6 years agoPerhaps I am lucky and got a good pressing, but I disagree with Athanase_Kircher, my pressing is clean and has an amazing soundstage the bass is tight and detailed (allowing for the fact that 80's pop was a little thin in the bass compared to pop nowadays) - my vinyl copy sounds a lot better than my CD to me....
It is also mentioned on Paul Rigby's website as quality pressed vinyl to own : https://theaudiophileman.com/depeche-modes/
