This is the original commercial USA release of Arrested Development's 1st LP '3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of...'.
As of the Native Tongues collective (along side De La Soul, ATCQ, The Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, Queen Latifah & Black Sheep among others) you could say this album came with endorsements, and so it flew off the shelves & blew up fast. Looking back on it, I don't think mine or any Hip Hop lover of a similar age's childhoods would have been the same without it.
Like De La Soul's '3 Feet High & Rising', this is both Hip Hop and pop; constructed around songs, choruses, melodies & positive message. Without De La bravely paving the way for Hip Hop to divert away from straight tough street talk & hard beats, it might not have been possible to pull off & market this as successfully.
Pure Hip- Pop gold.
