Edited one year agoI own 4 different copies of this album, the original LP release, the German Shark LP, the original US CD, remaster and the Japanese CD first edition. This version sounds just as good as any other. This album was recorded poorly and mastered poorly on most editions. The best sound out the box is the Japanese CD APCY-8039. Most versions of this album are muffled and dull. The Japanese release is bright and clear sounding. If you crank the treble on the US CD it sounds virtually the same however.

The original Cogumelo pressing is the closest to having the original sound as it was cut from the original multi-track master tapes, despite the oddly "dumbed down" cuts for "Inquisition Symphony" and "R.I.P. (Rest In Pain)" to get "around" the inner groove distortion that's inherit in a vinyl record unless one uses a more exotic stylus shape in a turntable cartridge. Cogumelo generally erase and reuse their multi-track analogue reels for later projects and unfortunately, this album falls victim of this practice.
All subsequent releases were derived from a backup two-track stereo tape, including the 1990 CD and LP remaster by Mike Fuller at Fullersound. The 1991 Japanese CD release was not remastered by Mike Fuller and is likely a flat transfer from that tape. Avoid the later brickwalled remasters from 1996 and beyond (i.e., the "Gold Disc" releases). -
Des gifles de batterie magistrales , une première face démentielle .. qu'il est loin le temps ou je découvrais ça ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝟗/𝟏𝟎

Regarding the Shark Records versions from the late '80's, of which I bought the LP at the time, the band later criticised that version as not being pressed from the original master tapes, but instead from cassette copies from the master tapes, therefore being inferior in sound to the original Cogumelo versions. I can confirm as such from my LP, it sounds like it needs an EQ boost to sounder louder & stronger.
