OMG....just found a minty copy in my local. Been looking for this (any Metheny or Mays really). Dam this sounds sweet. Getcha a copy 👍 -
I love Lyle Mays’ work in general. Pat Metheny is such a great artist that continues to grow and invent new music.
As I write, this recording is over 40 years old. It will be a classic soon, but it doesn’t sound dated.
The pressing was quiet. Also, very dished.
My peripheral ring and weight took care of that or it would not have sounded as good. -

I held my VG copy up to the light after reading this description. Turns out it's translucent! Looks like normal black vinyl until you hold it up in sunlight. Fascinating!

Edited one year agoPat Metheny is a truly brilliant artist. These early PM Group recordings are amazing, yet nearly everything Pat has done since is better. Pre-Secret Story vinyl is a no-brainer, just grab it.
On this album, "James" knocks my socks off every time I hear it.
If you've seen PMG over the years, you also know "Are You Going With Me" as a concert favorite. The ambient pieces, including "Bat part II" are super beautiful. And if you like jazz drumming, this record really shows off Danny Gottlieb's skills and style.
