Amazing album, amazing artwork on the LPs. HOWEVER, keep in mind since this is a picture disc, the sound quality will not be top notch. I heard a lot of crackling and popping noise on the 2nd LP. Other than that, no skips on my end, no distortion. Despite cleaning and static brush I used, it still pops, bothersome but nothing crazy

Chris Bellman (CB) did the best he could. Yes- there is some surface noise- but it in no way interferes with the music. Still a highly enjoyable listen with great dynamics.

I have this and an unofficial copy. The unofficial red vinyl copy as much as the packaging stinks, has far less surface noise than this. But it also doesn’t have the substantial feel and quality of this including the pressing quality (that is if you can get past the snaps, crackles and pops of this picture disc). That is they both have oro’s and cons. I’m happy u have both PLUS the HDCD.

Snap, crackles and pops to no end. Absolutely awful! No amount of cleaning will save it. Actually used some preservative on it and it seemed to work a lot better, but it still sounds compromised. Thumbs down.
-
There are some pops throughout but nothing too bothering, just turn it up louder which is how tool should be listened to anyway. The art work is very cool and decent gatefold quality! I wouldn't spend a ton of money on it but it's an obvious must have for any tool fan.
-
Lots of pops and clicks, poor quality sound, overall just not a fan of this pressing. I will say though, I really like the artwork on both the cover and discs, so there’s that.

Edited one year agoIdc what they charge for it, when this album is reissued on plain black vinyl, I’m buying it. For a band that seems to focus and invest so much time and energy on how they sound, it boggles my mind that would choose to press it on a crappy, noisy picture disc. It’s easily their best album and it’s not even close. They need to reissue this on 180g audiophile vinyl. No picture discs, no overpriced box sets, hell I won’t even care if it doesn’t come with so much as a gatefold jacket. I just want a good sounding pressing of this album before I die. Please, Tool, if you’re listening, gift your fans with a good pressing of this album. We’ve waited long enough.

As noisy, snappy, crackly, and warped my vinyl is it still shines over the hdcd and high res recently released. There is a certain “texture” to everything that I never heard before….and I’ve listened to this album a lot. A must have for even the casual Tool fan.
-
Stunning album … forgot how much I love every moment of it.. but came here to see what people were saying about pressing .. for a picture disk it sounds pretty good.. but there’s some light crackle noticeable in quieter parts. Don’t let it put you off though…

Beautiful picture disc set. I like the reflective foil graphics on the gatefold jacket. Discs are meaty and when listening through the crackly bits throughout, it does have richness and dynamics for enjoyment. The inner sleeves have already separated since I bought. Shrug. Overall I am drawn to listen to Lateralus and enjoy its winding prog metal path.
