Edited 5 years agoOne of the best deep house labels from the 90ies, used to own every single 12 inch, now on one triple album, quality time

Edited 2 years agoOnce largely unknown outside the domain of the ardent deep house cognoscenti, there's now a renewed interest in the work of guys like Ray Castoldi (in no small part thanks to sites like discogs). His tunes are way too good to be left by the wayside, and as the original releases on his X-Ray label have shot up in price drastically the last few years it's a good thing that KOC have come to the rescue and put this compilation together. I have all the singles but I bought this nonetheless, as some of my originals are a bit grubby, and others are slightly off-center. No such issues here, fortunately.
I'm not too crazy about "Absolute Time" or the voice samples in "And God Made A Woman", and they could perhaps have done a bit more with the packaging. But it doesn't matter. This is some of the best early 90's deep house you can find, and the tracks still sound better than most new releases in the genre. The sound is crisp and crystal clear, too - not always the case on reissues. Personally I'm very pleased that "The Nightflight", a dark 138 bpm techno banger and an utter anomaly on this label, made the cut although it might alienate some of the deep heads.
A stellar compilation - well compiled, well mastered, well cut. If you like this guy's music and you don't want to spend loads of money on the originals (which I wouldn't recommend - the best tracks are all here and sound just as good if not better) - then I wouldn't hesitate one second to purchase it. Hats off to everyone involved. -

Edited 7 years agoWhat a great compilation. Some hard to get rarities and just downright killer deep house cuts included in this one. Secure your copy asap. Top stuff.

Edited 7 years agoSplendid collection. Two tracks are taken from each of the six Castoldi EPs on X-ray Records (except XR-3, one track). Plus "Tone Poem" which was available on a Strictly Rhythm comp.
