Following their debut album, Point #1, Chevelle departs from their experimental sound and finds their foundation in Wonder What's Next. Brothers Pete, Sam, and Joe each contribute to a unique soundscape with sometimes cryptic, haunting lyrics that deal with human nature with a twist. Tracks like "The Red," and "Send the Pain Below" deal with crushing things of rage and desperation while the final track, "One Lonely Visitor," experiments with a tinny, haunting sound that explores feelings of isolation and longing for company within misery.
The Red is perhaps the most popular track on this album but I beg you to consider "An evening with El Diablo," as a serious contender for the best. While "The Red" explores the anger associated with being singled-out and rejected, "An Evening with El Diablo," explores the same subject from the perspective of saddened awe and lament.
