I’d leave 4.5 stars if possible. Brilliant debut album and for a bunch kids who were still 18-20 years old at the time of recording… the maturity of the music and clever lyrics are arguably beyond their years.
As for this vinyl pressing, it sounds very good and worth picking up. There is some slight compression and sibilance/distortion in the vocals. As others have stated it would be nice for a 45RPM or repress spread over 3 or 4 sides. This album deserves it… maybe for its 20th anniversary in 2026? -
Arctic Monkeys is a band that is constantly re-inventing themselves, but this is where it started. Side A of this debut album is about as good as rock gets, with traces of every influence from the 50s on down to the 00s. Alex Turner is a genius, and the quintessential front man. This pressing is very solid, and presents an excellent representation of the album. This easily could have been 2LP, and maybe one day a pressing will come along that is, and we can really hear what this album should be. Until then, this is a wonderful pressing, very enjoyable, just turn it up a little bit more and rock on.
-
Pretty solid pressing. Quite dynamic with no surface noise. Definitely needs a good clean and a new inner sleeve prior to playing though - lots of debris on the record upon opening.
-
It's a decent press. A little quiet, but it reminded me how much I enjoy this album. End to end fun. Cleaning it up before playing the first time took longer than average due to tons of residue from the inner sleeve. No major issues with pops and crackles.
