sounds good to my ears. cover is tho weird as it has Vince on the front and the actual artwork on the back

10/10 album. The artwork in the gatefold is soo cool. Never saw this art before so it was a pleasant surprise

Edited 3 years agomy copy has both discs labeled side A/B but the colors are the inverse on disc 2... anyone else? the music is correct luckily. echoing what others have said, amazing package and great sound on this.

Edited 3 years agoI dislike how Ray Janos cuts hip hop. And United is the worst pressing plants that has ever existed. So, I felt sick when I tracked down (ie broke down and paid too much money for) a copy of this only to discover from the runouts that it was cut by Janos and pressed at United. And pretty much everything I feared is true about this release. Surface noise is exactly what you expect. The mastering is flat, quiet, washed vocals, muddled, feels very compressed and lacks any kind of separation. for music with such energy it fails hard. this is one of my favorite albums of the decade and the source is mastered and produced so incredibly well... it's sad to hear it as though it was given no effort for the cut to vinyl.
This is a cool collectible, packaging and color is really nice. But if you are more into how records sound then this isn't worth your money. -

there are actually a few production differences on the vinyl than on the digital versions... specifically on the song "3230" where at the end of the verse there is a reverb of just his voice when in the digital the instrumental still plays

If Segment 1 is more of the hits, then this is the sleeper side of "Summertime '06". I am surprised No I.D. was all over this on the boards, sounds nothing like the works that I have heard from him before, but I digress. Solid storytelling on Vince's Def Jam debut continues on this segment of "Summertime", and I feel an ounce of pride as he mentions being "a skinny nigga" making it out of the LBC as I am well aware of that termanology being applied to myself in L.A.
"Street Punks" is a scathing studio-gangster diss for the late 2010's,"Get Paid" is ironic , serving as a street anthem, but also as a cautionary tale (as is the majority of this record), as is "Hang-N-Bang", featuring A$ton Matthews, and I don't know if it's just from being from L.A, - but I just love seeing bloods & crips unite on a record. The intro in "Ramona Park Legend Pt. 2" is what it needs to be - short, but filled with substance; and "Like It Is" is as empowering as it should be.
"Summertime '06" is how I'd like to Long Beach - a cool breeze, salty air, and great King Taco - but then it still has the parts I don't enjoy ing while being homeless ing through there : the prejudice, the fear, the anger, the paranoia - "Summertime '06" is a fitting ode
to the cleanest beach I've visited in California, and yes, I wen't to high school in Venice -summertime '12. -
it's not obvious from the pictures, but the front cover has a 3-way Respect the Classics-style holoprint attached to it. It features the original artwork, the drawing of Vince, and a SPOOKY SKULL. Highly recommended.
