"The Wipe (5am Synaptic)" is of course a classic. Having heard that tack on Richie Hawtins "X-Mix-3" in 1993 for the first time i fell in love with it. And this love never ended and will never end. -

5am Synaptic mix is a mind bending and genre transcending track that I listened to a dozen times before I decided it had to be added to my collection. Unique, trippy and unforgettable.
Sonic Dub mix is deep and trancey with a hint of the Goa sound as it begins. As it unfolds it gets a bit tense which is disappointing because I was really enjoying the groove up til then. At 4:20 the high pitched sound really kills it for me.......even feels a bit painful that sound. -

Overly druggy release, this one. The 5am mix of The Wipe needs no introduction: it is a rightful classic. The Sonik Dub version is more challenging because of its deranged programming and disturbed sounds. Spatial K sends waves of ice-cold, razorsharp crystals towards the listener's ears -- mostly beatless, but frenetic nonetheless.
All tracks share some elements: a combination of rather low-frequency oscillations with ear-piercingly high-pitched sounds, cascades of slightly distorted high percussions and a consistent use of flanger. -

The Wipe is amazingly beautiful and exceedingly painful at the same time. Not merely a track, it's a miniature piece of performance art. To be done right, the audience should be wincing from ear-shredding treble while being unable to stop moving from ominous acid bassline.
