Notes
The album cover was initially released in four color combinations – yellow and blue, red and green, purple and yellow, and blue and orange – but would ultimately be given another four makeovers with releases in lime green and pink, hot purple and burnt orange, gold and platinum (to mark its sales milestones), and finally yellow, blue and red.
When it was later released on the A&M label, wild, imaginative shapes and patterns covered the vinyl using a technique known as "laser-etching". When light hit the record, these designs would protrude and spin about the room. The album was the first to ever use this technique, originally designed to discourage the creation of counterfeit copies.

-
Just a great album and a wonderful time capsule for early Neil Finn music. No complaints on the pressing, either. Shocked that the etching didn't affect playback that I can detect.
-
Design, colour choices and layout done by Belle Piec with Noel Crombie art directing on this 2004 release for Traffic Design Studios.

Edited 18 days agoWhere does is say anywhere on label or cover that this is an Australian & New Zealand pressing? It doesn't. So it should be put back under the AUSTRALIAN search. Also mine says 1979 on back of cover and NOT 1980. So this was a 1979 pressing

Talk about a chop suey of a track list just to accommodate the 8 tracks. The yanks never learned with the format how to keep an album tracklisting as intended

Edited one year agoWow! What a killer of an album! Enchanting melodies, refined twists, masterful singing and instrumentation! The Beatles, revived in 1980, couldn't have made it better! The extremely unusual way this album was presented - the laser-etched vinyl (I*m still astonished that it doesn't affect the playing in the slightest!) and the different cover-colours - is adequate and adds to the excitement! You should have at least ONE variation of this gem in your collection!

Very clean dynamics reflects Audiophile quality within this Australian classic pressing.
The vocals are within the mix for earlier 80s mix you would be hard pressed to find better recoding within this genre. -

Edited 3 years agoSounds good to me and I really like the remix, they've brought the more subtle instrumentation from the original further up in the mix, bass is fuller too. Nice job, Poor Boy in particular sounds fantastic.
