WHAT A USELESS SINGLE COMES WITHOUT THE ALBUM, AND INSTRUMETAL , VERSIONS -

30 years ago David Morales and I went into the studio to make the basic track for the remix of Mariah Carey’s Dreamlover. She was to come in to the studio and sing a new vocal; this was ground breaking at the time. Rarely if ever even happens today. David programmed some drums to get us started. We came up with a track, in a different key, also in a minor key (the original was in a major key). I basically played 23 tracks of 4 bar loops, continuously playing and recorded to a 24 track 2 inch analog reel-to-reel tape. David masterfully arranged those parts into a structure using the automation on an SSL console, choosing only the ones that worked the best together, and then went into the studio with Mariah to cut the vocals. They put a whole different spin on the song. Alec Shantzis also added some additional keyboard parts and John Poppo engineered the mix. I was amazed with the final version. -

IMHO this was the most revolting version/design of the Columbia label Sony ever had created (It is the USA NOT Japan)
its really nice to note that the USA 12" promo labels continued with its classic rim logo design that had held the helm for 17 years

A very odd and strange UK Sony Music promo release of a Mrs Sony classic............
someone in the art department should have been shot as they did not do their release homework at all.......
1. Since when did Mrs Sony EVER release recordings on Epic? Epic blanks were wrongly used instead of Columbia ones
2. Could the playback speed not have been checked? 3 club mixes on a side at 45rpm oh please its 331/3 (note the lister had clearly NOT played this but,was 100% happy to input 45rpm as the speed did they in fact own a copy?)
3. With just 250-300 pressed at Ex CBS plant in Aston Clinton Aylesbury for the mailing list one side of the stamper metal was/.is off centre giving the pressed side a "lovely swing" keyboards and strings do NOT bad well at all with pressing fault swing
4. The dance division info sheet listed the mixes

Dreamlover in its original form, is not very enjoyable, But morales turns it into an amazing dance track! -

Carey & Morales at their best. A timeless club classic that sounds as good today, as it did 30 years ago. -

First time I went to sound factory, 1994, 17yrs old, fuck man I heard Dreamlover AND I’ll be your friend AND So get up. Wtf. I was never the same after that. I’m at hard for most to understand how good Jr was at the time, but it didn’t get any better. Nobody did it better. To bad it didn’t stick. -

David Morales was approached by Columbia to remix "Dreamlover" but initially refused feeling it was too "bubblegum pop". The only way to do it was to have Mariah come and re-sing the vocals, which surprisingly the label agreed to. It was the first time David would produce for a major artist.
Before the session, David worked with Eric Kupper to create the main piano groove loop. For the actual session, it was Mariah Carey, John Poppo and David Morales recording the vocals at Quad Studios. David later received royalties/points for this complete re-production.

Love watching people laugh at this record when they see the cover, and then you show them how side B has three huge tracks without a smattering of fromage or shrill crap. David Morales at his finest. What a record. And so cheap.... it's the most known unknown of all time.
