Edited 11 years agoA good compilation, with good variaty. A couple of tracks are very exciting and I like the occasional humorous approach (some lyrics and the notes on the casing are rather funny). I find the majority of tracks quite enjoyable and some standouts made it very worthwhile for me, so I'm glad I bought it.
8.5/10
Personal favourites: Columbus, Trip To Nowhere, Boneskin (!), and Young At Heart. -
Overall, what we have here is a very nice selection of downtempo tracks. Apart from two or three more Housey/Drum & Bass tracks, the mood is set to 'off': this is new Lounge music, with a couple of references to the spage age (Dimitri From Paris, Stasis) and the idle class (Morphine) for example.
Some of the songs are excellent: none of them can't be dated easily: the contemporary feel still works more than 10 years after the release of this compilation.
The only thing I dislike is the editing and sequencing job between some tracks, which I think was absolutely not necessary. The enhanced section is funny, but I am still wondering about the purpose of it, as it doesn't bring anything new to the musical content. -
This CD is hard to judge ... it has a couple of highlights which might make it worth the purchase , but also has a couple of songs that do not seem to get out of the starting blocks. I am a big fan of the ambient/downtempo genre and i am not dissapointed in this purchase , but i think a newcommer to this type of music would not like it. The highlights include (but are not limited to :) Tosca - the Key , and Peace Orchestra - 10. (Yeah , Kruder and Dorfmeister's solo outfits). I guess its really worth a listen. Give it a bash.
