The sound quality is amazing, but my copy is quite noisy throughout side 2. Still the best-sounding copy of this incredible album. Highly recommended (o:

Edited one year agoSimply perfect album. Masterful. It took a few purchases of noisy copies before I landed this terrific sounding pressing with the exception of light clicking at the beginning of tracks A1 and B1. My favorite XTC. The embossed album cover is among the best ever.
-
My pressing has a bunch of snaps, crackles, and pops at the beginning of River of Orchids, which is rather annoying. But man, once that nonsense subsides, this pressing is breathtaking. Easter Theatre will literally stop you in your tracks.

I just got this pressing from Amazon. I’m very happy with the sound quality. I find it very smooth and crankable. I have no other versions to compare it to. Taken on its own, I think it’s wonderful.
-
Sounds great to me, but then I can't compare with the original pressing. Mine was flat, centered and had no pops or noice, and weighs just under 200g. Apple Venus is easily one of the best XTC albums.

Edited 3 years agoSame as the other comment, got the new batch and it sound good to my ears! Some surface noise but the mixing is good.

Just got one from the new batch and the sound is sublime. Shame it's not gatefold though. Nice to have the lyrics which the CD didn't have.

This is an amazing album! It's a type of record that makes a fellow music-lover go, 'what is this, playing now?' , on first listen. The album should be considered based on C.Moulding's and A.Partidge's different style of song-craft. Moulding's songs are more light-hearted, festive and amusing, while Partridges' are dreamy, esoteric, evangelical ('The Green Man' - not a Christian song in any sense.) and at times a touch too sentimental. Mileage will vary on that last characteristic. This is an amazing album that's been a favourite of mine since picking it up mostly at random in '99. After enjoying it a lot I was excited for Apple Venus Vol. 2. Sadly, in my opinion, Vol.2 was a bit of a let-down and seemed to lack most of the spark, levity and musical brilliance found in nearly all tracks on Vol.1. XTC seems to be a band with a wildly varying catalogue. I don't think this album should be dismissed nor be judged on expectations based on their other releases. I heartily recommend XTC's Apple Venus Volume 1. -
Worth noting that Partridge has mentioned via Twitter that they are re-doing this with Mr Wilson twiddling away https://twitter.com/apehouseXTC/status/1349755611844648961

I hace recently just bought both Apple Venus and Wasp Star together from Kelly's Records in Cardiff, and in my opinion I am very happy with my purchase and very pleased with the product(s) that have been reproduced for the recent vinyl reissue.
I have seen some people complain over the audio quality of the new vinyl reissue, and I have also seen some complaints on the quality of the actual vinyl pressing of some peoples copies whilst others have given positive reviews regarding their own copies.
With regards to any pressing from any issue of any album on vinyl there will always be some copies that not only should not really through quality control but do occassionally slip through the net, but my own particular copies of both Apple Venus Volume One and Apple Venus Volume Two Wasp Star are bith excellent in both audio quality and the quality of the vinyl pressing themselves.
I couldn't be more pleased with my recent purchases of both albums especially as I missed out on the original pressings when originally first released, I only wish that I could also own Homespun, Homegrown, Instruvenus and Waspstrumental all on vinyl too.
I really do love collecting boxed sets and own a very many and would love to see a boxed set on vinyl that contains all the above named releases packaged together but I sadly feel that this will be one boxed set too far, the one I wish to see most that I shall never see at all.
The music on both Apple Venus and Wasp Star is far superior music to the vast majority of music released at the original time of release and still more superior to much of the music released since with only abfew bands coming close to or equalling XTC's quality as XTC are truly one of THE greatest bands ever in the history of modern popular music.
As with other such artists and bands such as Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, XTC are one of those bands who have sometimes been equalled, but never bettered.
I don't need to big up the band or this album to fans, but to anyone yet to discover XTC then I can't big this album up enough (or any of their albums) and so I shall just finish with one word to desctibe it, "SUPERB"!
