Converge – You Fail Me

Had no idea this was a quad gatefold judging off of the outer sleeve. My first copy was just a normal black vinyl of the original version of the record, so this was a super welcome surprise. Love this press!

Gorgeous looking pressing. Sound is great. Punchy and pretty dynamic.

Not sure why anyone enjoys the Redux or why Kurt ever remixed it, but it sounds commercial and clean, completely contradicting the album's aesthetic. The original mix reminds me of 80s scandinavian crust punk like Rattus and Crude SS. It's completely vicious and horrifying in the best way. There is nothing menacing about the redux and it somehow distills a really special album into a piece that feels like a part of Kurt's college portfolio. I am still to hear a remix of an iconic heavy album from 2000-2010 that actually enhances the original idea. Seems like people chase textural clarity and forget about how the original thing made us feel.

I had two black pressings prior to owning this version, one of them being replaced by Deathwish because of scratches, pops and clicks (even with a wet clean). Out of the packing, this one blew both of them out of the water and after a wet clean it sounds truly remarkable. I also own the 2013 Salt Mastering release, which sounds very good in its own right but the Redux is just *chef's kiss*.

Outstanding release, both in of sound and presentation. The record sounds extremely dinamic and quiet. It's definitely a unique listening experience, due to it being not as loud and blown out as the digital version of the redux. The record itself looks great and is housed in the gatefold, with no paper sleeve, so I gave it an antistatic one.
I recommend getting this version, the quadruple gatefold sleeve looks amazing with Jacob Bannon's top notch artwork and adds a lot of character to record.

The remix itself sounds great. The vinyl, for the most part, sounds very good...at least in the areas where the record did not get any scratches or marks from being housed without any type of sleeve. There is a built-in pocket on the gatefold but it was not utilized during packing. Gonna try to get another copy.

Update, July 02, 2019:
I had ed Deathwish Inc. after writing the previous review and they were happy to replace the record without any question. The next copy I received was top notch after a couple of cleanings. They were quick to respond and ship the replacement record. Still without sleeves, which I guess is how they decided to pack it.

My version of this for some reason doesn't have a tracklist printed anywhere. I know the songs pretty well so it's not a problem, just an interesting anomaly. Anyone know if this is true for all of this pressing?
