Had this for ages but playing it again after a long while - and a couple years of growth in my understanding of what is and isn't a good pressing. This is a gem. Dead silent wax and outstanding dynamics. Being such a well-produced record certainly doesn't hurt either!
-
How is removing the (Iconic) Woman from the cover and replacing her with a black square "celebrating women history month"??? this is exactly the opposite, censoring women shutting them up. next edition will remove her voice from the record as well I guess.

Edited one month agoGo for an original pressing. There is sibilance on I've Done It Again and they added a LOT of bass on this remaster. The bass is more rumbly, though - not tight. Original pressings are better and cheaper.
-
"New artwork sleeve" - the same plain faux cassette cover image appears to have been used to accompany the previous digital release, for reasons unknown.

The production on this is amazing, and my copy at least, is super quiet. The rhythms through a system with a bit of Base encourage you to turn it just that bit Louder! If you see it , buy it. -
I love Grace Jones – she is such a unique creature. I saw her perform live and she, her self, is amazing. She enjoys performing, has a strong voice and loves the audience, drawing them in. There are not many like her, she is thrilling and the thrill is ed to all who view / listen to her.
For me, Nightclubbing is pretty much the best album for Grace. Walking in the Rain is an anthem. Libertango is enchanting. However, I don't limit myself to one image of Grace Jones or one album. Her version of La Vie en Rose is very moving, a paean to her soul-city Paris and the perfect swan song to the balladic approach of her previous albums. It bookends Grace’s range, she is not only ‘the cool androgene of the night’, she is also at home with ‘tender’. Grace is a performer who goes beyond the music, her image is also inseparable from the music.
So, for this edition, the minimalist cover confused me. OK, maybe for some other electronica album, where image is redundant. Plainest type ever, yes, neat and well-placed, bbbbbbut . . . What are they doing here? Paring it down somehow, focusing attention on just the music? An anonymous, cataloguing envelope for storage in a museum: it totally sidelines the place this album carved in music, dance and queer-club culture.
Nightclubbing was the big step to cementing a persona / look – which pretty much clung to Grace; the creation of her androgynous image (feminine / masculine, strength and even machine-like robotic, but always beautiful). Sloshing away Grace jones’s portrait like this is an act of ignorance of what Grace Jones came from and what she IS. Everything in her art, her voice, her dance, her appearance, MODELING was all carefully considered, designed and then worn and borne by Grace. Her dresses could be as big as the stage, and her hats too, almost. She has been cited as a living work of art herself, created by Grace, photographers and her team of designers including Gaultier and Jean Paul Goude.
Of the many thousand photographs of Grace, Goude’s photo for this album cover, is ‘generally’ considered the best, it’s certainly defining. The album cover is listed in many lists, known as being one of the best covers (EVER). The cover’s photo is testified in magazines, newspapers, all part of a living history. This special gold disc version strips away the image and no there is nothing printed inside the album.
I’m not saying this edition is bad, but it is bad if you have no other editions. If you want a good version of this album there are many options. 2014, there was a double album on both vinyl and CD which included some of the extended mixes, well worth having. (Some remarked there should have been many other remixes, ie repeating tracks, I am fine with the selection they made – because I have the original 12”s I guess.) If you want a good vinyl edition and can’t find one other than this, it might be best to buy a CD and wait till the industry repress and dress it properly. -
Edited 2 months agonoisy and cheap (not the actual price!) - if you don't need it for completists reasons, silly me!, let it . beside the mediocre sound: what's behind the idea of robbing a classic art work which shows one of the most amazing women in pop and replacing the iconic artwork with a cheap nothing of a cover - and put a sticker on front which is supposed to honor women. Nope, the opposite is true. who ever is responsible for this took away her picture and pressed a lousy record. that's how you honor women? stupid. (says a guy).

Excellent pressing and mix. I'd only heard this via that popular streaming site; this is another level! -

Gotta agree. This is a surprisingly good pressing. Just randomly pulled it out of my collection and wow. -

Absolutely phenomenal sound. The fact that this pressing comes from an early 80s Berlin is also just perfect. And that cover photo! Amazing
