Tanita Tikaram – Ancient Heart

Good listening. I bought this just for “Twist in My Sobriety” and “Good Tradition”. Brings back the 80s for me. Seems like the previous owner hardly played it - so lucky for me both media and sleeves are in NM condition. The record is warm and surprisingly quite analogue, considering this record came out in 1988 when synthetic drums were all the rage. You can’t fully escape them, they make an appearance in Track 4 “World Outside Your Window” although not quite overpowering the song.

Side 2 starts with “Twist in My Sobriety” which is sobering as well as loud and the whole purpose of this LP. Apart from this track, other notable tracks in this side include “Poor Cow” and “He Likes The Sun” with a subtle guitar twang coming through the left speaker. I would strongly recommend a Spotify listen (or add your favourite streamer) before purchasing this record. It’s a great LP for folk rock lovers. Go for the Teldec pressing judging by comments on other pressings, this Teldec one is clear, quite silent between tracks and provides a very good soundstage.

This is an old favorite that I had only heard on cd. Really liking this crisp recording with good imaging, Recorded and mixed analog, but unsure about mastering. Great production and keyboards from legend Rod Argent and another legend, Marc Ribot, guests on guitar. Favorite track among many is Poor Cow.

Klanglich eine echte Überraschung! Sehr detailreich und eine phantastische Dynamik. Eigentlich wollte ich die Platte (ungehört) verkaufen, weil das nicht meine Musik ist, aber nun hat die Scheibe doch den Weg ins Plattenregal bei mir geschafft!

Kind of weird that a record that I found in a free box outside of a record store would end up being one of the nicest sounding records I got this year, right? Not sure how that happens. Anyway, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Get this pressing with confidence because it sounds reeeeal nice and it sounds especially nice if you don't pay anything for it. Lol

Don't bother with any recent re-released / remastered versions. This original 1988 CD release sounds spectacular, and has a dynamic range off the charts by modern standards (DR - 13 average / 11 minimum / 16 maximum).

Excellent music, but late PDO discs like this are prone to bronzing, at least on the label side.

Great dynamic sound, with a lot of detail.
The vinyl is dead quiet.
