I’m wondering if the pressing of this tape is the U.S. cassette? -
Listening to this album for the first time, with zero preconceptions and not even knowing of its existence until just before hearing it, I think it's a gem of a period piece, with some great moments. The musicians and the 2 Monkees vocalists sound great, and there's a good amount of variety in the song choices. I'm glad I heard it.

The Monkees' final album (until POOL IT in 1987) is the classic contractual obligation release, with the quartet now down to a duo, and once again reduced to vocal contributions only, cogs in the Jeff Barry bubblegum machine. There are some good moments...Chuck Rainey's bass guitar on "I Love You Better"..."Oh My My" was a good choice for the lead single..."99 Pounds" is a fuzzed out rocker dug up from early 1967 and sung by Davy. Micky carries the album best he can, with 8 of the 12 lead vocals and the one true gem, "Midnight Train", featuring Coco Dolenz on harmonies. This is the 1986 Rhino reissue, which was sourced from vinyl, but still sounds respectable. Bought this at Camelot Music in 1987. -

I believe this reissue is a needle-drop since you can make out slight evidence of surface noise on a few tracks,, which also can be heard on the cassette reissue of this. Still sounds good -

This album is so underrated - Micky shines on this release. -

Been a Monkees fan for most of my life (that spans about 5 decades) Changes is my least favorite Monkees lp. But. My genuine feeling is it's not that bad. Get rid of 3 or 4 tunes, invite some Nez stuff in, this would be a keeper. Can't change the past. No pun intended. ;)

that's the saddest goddamn record cover photo i've ever seen
fuckin maracas and tambourine, it's like they wanted us to know they suck musically -
Michael Nesmith left The Monkees in March 1970 to form The National Band, reducing the group to a duo consisting of Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones to record one last album. The Monkees as a duo was a sad affair, the album the two recorded was an even sadder affair. The two dutifully added their vocals to a number of prerecorded tapes. One or two outtakes dating back to 1966 were lifted from the shelf. The best track was the one Mickey Dolenz produced and wrote, Midnight Train. But even that song dated back to 1967.
