Notes
"Waterloo" was the first proper ABBA album, following the proto-ABBA "Honey Honey" was a moderate hit.
In Sweden, the album was one of the biggest-selling Swedish albums to that point. In the UK the album made No. 28, the first time a foreign Eurovision act had charted an album. It also performed well in the rest of Europe and Australia. "Waterloo" was first released on CD in 1988.
The photo session for the cover took place in the Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred (a castle started by king Gustaf Vasa in 1537 and famous for its rich art collection). Napoleon was portrayed by Mike Watson.

Is that red dot a sticker? Or is it printed on the cover? -
Edited 8 months agoMy A-6 / B-3 variant sounds very good on Side A, but very bad on Side B. Whilst Side A has an open and clear sound, all Side B tracks sound like played through a wrong (and too brutal) Dolby decoder: Pumping artifacts, muddy treble etc...something is wrong with that cutting.

Great album and this 2LP half-speed sounds great. I also have the 1974 Danish release and the sound it's a bit fuller.

At this point, long-suffering ABBA fans are going through the motions with these Abbey Rd releases. Nothing special here at all - a little fuller-sounding than all releases post the late 70s, soundstage is also wider. The problem is that the mater tapes of most of ABBA's catalogue are in really poor shape, and the more I listen to any Abbey Rd release, the more it becomes apparent that the condition of the master tape is what will ultimately give Miles the chance to really turn in something special. Artwork is so WOEFUL, it is embarrassing. The 2000 Direct Metal Master editions were spectacular high-resolution images. How they have since gone missing or got lost, defies explanation. ABBA / Gorel & Universal are fully aware of these issues, but despite this, they clearly aren't interested in fixing them any time soon.

Edited one year agoHave noticed the beginnings of disc rot on the dvd with this set. Suggest you check yours everybody.
Update 30th December 2023. Thanks to Volpeculis for suggesting that this is not rot but is some kind of surface buildup and will clean away with alcohol spray and a very soft cotton cloth. I've had success with cleaning it all off though definitely not mint condition anymore lol! -

The first album I ever bought. It has a special place in heart. I bought it with money I was given for my 13th birthday. I'll be 62 this year. The album is in better condition than me. -
It is disappointing, upsetting and annoying approach to spoil the video quality by applying the NTSC encoding system! The previous release was prepared in PAL system and they should not have change it just to please Americans. This one contains the footage not available in PAL. It is sad that this way we are devoided of having it in higher quality!

Great organic sound! This Polar edition is clearly better than the 1990 European Polydor edition (843 643-2). The depth of the bass on some tracks is simply impressive! -

There's a label variation for this album. The "Victor" is in white (the same way as the "RCA") and not black, as in the version photographed here. This is the 1975 reissue. -
Excellent rendition of the album. I had the Canadian Atlantic release from the early 70's and from what I can , the sound of this record is far superior. The bass booms and the tone shines clearly making this a great modern dance album, as it should be. We have to consider that the technology today is really able to enhance the sound far better than the time it was recorded with magnetic tapes and the transfer to vinyl records makes it all the better. Well worth the buy. Thank you Back to Black
