One of my favorite records of all time. Cowell was quite old when this was recorded, so his performances may not be the best possible, if you know the scores; however, he's the guy wrote the stuff, and it's frankly worth it just for his droll spoken word track at the end of the LP. Never heard the original fifties pressing but I had a red cover copy as well, and these all apparently sound about the same... it's a Folkways record. The plain black textured cardboard sleeves have a pasted on, wrap around picture cover and tracklist, and small eight page photo and text insert, plus an extra blank grey cardboard square insert, slightly smaller than the whole sleeve... the plain black sleeves are notorious for falling apart at the seams. Still kind of a cool packaging idea, and Folkways put out a lot of classic recordings, the great Lightnin Hopkins LP and the eerie Roscoe Holcomb recordings...
