My copy sounds great! They've done a great job with this reissue. An album that I will own on any format. So,so good!
-
Edited one month agoThis album never sounded so good in my house, much better dynamics and low end than on my cd from the '90s. Some slight IGD, though.

Ive got a pressing of this where my disc 1 has a white label, anyone seen his before? -
Their second best, since being better than Disintegration would be a rather tall achievement. Excellent 80's vinyl here. Solid dynamics, huge soundstage, and crystal clear.
-
Do we really not know what year this was released? I mean, I don't, but there's gotta be a way to work it out - right?
Says 1987 on the sleeve, which is the year this album was released I'm aware, but could it have been a same year repress? -
Probably the dirtiest record I've opened out of the shrink? After cleaning the dust off though, this actually sounds pretty great. Side C sounds a bit iffy towards the end but the rest is very full and well-mastered

At its best, this bloated record feels like "The Head on the Door" out-takes. At its worst, it’s like "The Top" never happened.
The lack of direction, inspiration and musicality is perfectly understandable considering that by this stage, the band formerly known as The Cure had effectively become The Robert Smith Solo Project starring guest musicians. Core band such as Lol Tolhurst - and particularly the under-appreciated Matthieu Hartley of "A Forest" fame - were by now consigned to the sidelines, transgressions such as being drunk on tour leading to their eternal banishment.
The cost is dear.
Gone are the hypnotic drums. Gone are the timeless, moody synthscapes from Harftley. Instead we find weak, generic "preset"- sounding keyboard sounds. These have dated particularly badly (such as the pan flute sound in "One More Time"). An ill-advised attempt to inject some funk into the proceedings sees the introduction of cheesy-sounding saxophones on some tracks. This leads to a busy-sounding mix with too many instruments jostling for position. It’s like some grotesque Vaudeville music-hall magic box opened by grinning midgets.
Smith compliments the banal, tinny-sounding music with some of the worst lyrics he’s ever committed to tape. We find him “feeling (and screaming) like an animal”, as he wants someone “one more time”. Elsewhere he says to a “strange girl” that he can turn her “upside down”. The less that’s said about “Hot Hot Hot” the better.
"Disintegration" and "Wish" rescued Robert Smith's reputation. But only just. -
Here we have a beautiful album by the Cure and this German pressing sounds great. The sound is fresh and punchy.
-
Believe the hype: this pressing is auditory bliss. It has thundering bass but sparkling mids and highs. No joke might be one of the best sounding records I own. Pretty confident it uses the same pressing plates as the original UK as well, and the result is perfection.
