The Boo Radleys – Giant Steps

Just opened my new copy and compared it with the original pressing - unfortunately the original beats it in every way; it's more dynamic, cleaner highs, deeper lows and all-round better sounding. The sibilance on the new one is pretty glaring, as others have mentioned.

Nothing rare here, really. A nice compilation of easy to find b-sides, I guess.

I'm squarely in the sibilance is so bad it's unlistenable camp. Not sure what others are hearing. Whatever version is on Spotify sounds much better. Oof.

Nice, crisp pressing. Mastering is kind of quiet, but it seems to mimic the original release instead of brickwalling it to death. The dynamic shifts on "Leaves And Sand" are as wonderfully jarring as they were on the original release, so just turn it up loud and dive in. As mentioned in other comments, the version of "Lazarus" here is the extended mix and not the one I'm used to from the 1993 US CD release on Columbia. Buy with confidence.

Picked up a lovely copy of this OG version at a great price and so happy with it. Sounds fantastic on vinyl like so many Creation albums. Can finally see the two giraffes on the cover too ;)

Once the bass kicks in on "Upon 9th & Fairchild", you know you have struck gold with this pressing. Great example of where the DMM process can enhance a recording - the highs are nice and crisp, the lows are huge but not overpowering. Very dynamic record, with a mixture of both quiet and loud moments. I had only heard the album on CD before getting this, but this is now the only way I want to hear it - a lovely upgrade!

I’m not a Boo Radleys expert but the mastering on the Creation pressing sounds remarkebly different and better than the 2023 anniversary edition. Like two different albums. Get an original. The reissue sounds horrible in comparison.

U.S. fan here - any recommendations on how to buy this, aside from gambling on individual Discoggers?

Why am I getting fekkin warped vinyl all the time?
It costs too much so sort your shit out Labels and pressers.
Plus....the record shops are losing money with all the postage costs.

A strange experience to see that people do commentaries on versions that are NOT this one! Isn't it better to just do that under the appropriate listing of said version? Oh, and this OG from 1993 is very nice. Happy to have it and happy for those that got the anniversary reissue too. It's about the music after all...
