Edited 8 months agoI went ahead and bought this even though I have no complaints about the original mastering (I have the USA 1997 CD with 2 bonus tracks). Have yet to fully listen to it, but I did a hasty A/B comparison. The album tracks definitely have a beefier low end and some of the high end has been reigned in a bit. I honestly always liked the shimmering high end of the original mastering. The new one sounds fine, but it may just take a couple thorough listens to be fully objective. I've generally been pleased with all the Erasure remasters thus far, but have also opted to KEEP all my original CD's because none of them ever sounded "bad".
The 2nd disc isn't earth shaking for me since I already have all but the new mixes. Again, the original 1997 mastering of those tracks was already very good. Two tracks that stick out like a sore thumb are "Rapture" and "First ". To me, the new mastering for both sounds just awful compared to the 1997 originals. I mean, shockingly bad!
Regardless of how I will ultimately feel about this new release, I DO love the packaging of all the reissues! Beautifully done.
Update:
I listened to all of disc 1 and am pretty satisfied with the sound quality. I do like the subtle increase in bass. Disc 2 is a different story. The 2 previously mentioned tracks are probably the worst, but most of the content seems way too saturated with bass. Glad I still have all the original swath of releases. I don't care for any of the new remixes this time around which surprises me. They are rather bland and uninspired. Where is Matt Pop, Glen Nicholls or TSF when you need em!?! The main album does sound pretty good though. -
One of my favorite Erasure albums. I much prefer the design/color scheme of the U.S. artwork. Less "drab", and to me, visually represents the shimmering, upbeat music far better.

Really great sounding remaster compared to the original US CD and the less-than-stellar 2016 BMG vinyl reissue. Liner notes shed some new light on the recording process. Second disc is really of interest only to serious fans, but the stand-out remix is Telex Remix of "Don't Say Your Love is Killing Me". The rest has been available on various other formats that fans have likely collected, and the two other new remixes are a bit too off-the-beaten-path for longtime fans. Can't wait for the "Loveboat" remaster!

Sounds and plays great, just needs a bit more low-end added and it would be perfect. Easy enough to adjust to taste and set up. Easily one of my top 5 favorite Erasure albums with not a miss on it.

'Cowboy' and 'Loveboat' have the most blandest CG cover 'art' on any Erasure album, ever. By this time they had eschewed all the beautiful mostly handrawn (and photographed) artwork of previous album covers for a misguided late 90's europap feel. The music is still catchy and well produced enough, but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. -
Excellent pressing in of quiet playback. I’d say the mastering on this has a bit more of a spacious sound to it, but overall not a huge difference over the original cd. Still great though.

It just dawned on my while listening to this copy, "In My Arms" is the "radio version" but slightly extended. It's rather strange to have it replace the original album version, but at least the quality of the vinyl is good.
