Noisy vinyl, background static all through my copy which is never drowned out by the relatively mellow musical goings on. A great album, deserves better than this. -

Don't Give Up on Me most closely resembles Johnny Cash's superb American Recordings in that the spare simplicity of the album's presentation reveals the rich complexities of the singer's gifts as they've rarely been allowed in the past. At the same time, it's a very different kettle of fish from his classic sides for Atlantic in the 1960s. Please Don't Give Up on Me leaves no doubt that Solomon Burke is still one of the finest voices of his time, and anyone who the power of soul music has ever moved needs to hear this album. Joe Henry like no other producer knows exactly what to do with Solomon Burke's vocals. the recording is above and beyond expectations, with a Large soundstage and incredible subs....ESSENTIAL....! -
Great packaging, but it sounds really muddy (vocals & instrument). Disappointing to say the least, especially since they bothered to press this on 180g as 45s.

Solomon Burke is considered as one of the founding fathers of the soul. He combined early pop, gospel and rhythm and blues & his record from the 1960s are among the best in the genre. Despite a series of successful r&b-hits broke Burke never really widely by, he left show business eventually becoming a successful priest and funeral service. In addition, this busy owner for years had held two independent record labels, where he founded his own record on. For this special cd label Fat Possum approached a number of renowned songwriters with request to deliver material. Big names like Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson hapten right away. The result is a stunning deep soul ' plate. Burke sings the strong song material with the same strength and intensity as in his younger years. It makes Don't Give Up On Me a real must for anyone who wants to know where contemporary artists from the r&b and new classic soul the mustard. -
Why this record is so expensive? It is a repress in just one lp...
