Counting Crows – This Desert Life

We can hope for a reissue on vinyl. I love this album also but the price is too high...

Finally pulled the trigger on this bootleg. I think it sounds better than a lot of other bootlegs I have. There's some warmth to this. It's not audiophile quality by any means, however, if you can find it for $30 or less, go for it. I think you'll be surprised.

I have pretty much the same sentiments as everyone else - this record sounds just OK. The vinyl is pretty quiet and while the music doesn't sound bad per se, it's not an inviting sound unfortunately. This pressing lacks a lot of high end and the music just sounds kinda flat and limp. I guess beggars can't be choosers considering how rare legitimate copies are, and with the master tapes being so elusive it might be years until a repress comes around, if at all. So sadly this will have to suffice for now.

Why is this album so darn expensive? I understand it’s probably because it’s scarce and a late 90s press.

Listening to It now, sounds great. Would I like to have the original at $750? Sure but this does the trick.

Picked this up and honestly like stated previously I’ve got officially released vinyl that sounds wayyy worse. For a bootleg album I’m completely satisfied with this. $80 compared to $900 for an OG I’m good.

Sounds no better than the CD, if not worse. Regret purchasing it, but was desperate to try and own a copy of this on vinyl and was hoping it was a pirate bootleg made form the original plates. Avoid.

Played this for the first time last night and I was incredibly disappointed. The wide-open and airy sound in the original's high-end is completely gone, making the entire recording sound very drab. All of the high harmonies are dull and muted as a result. The bouncy bass from the original is also dull and muted on the low end. There are brief moments where the vocals or any loud midrange tone will distort as well as the occasional crackle and pop.

I had very high hopes for this record as it is one of my favorites and an original is insanely expensive but 5 minutes into the A side I was ready to pay any price not to hear this version. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst-sounding records in my collection.

On the bright side, if anyone is interested, my copy is for sale.

Managed to get my copy signed the other night by Adam and Immer during the Butter Miracle tour. Super stoked!

Interestingly, as Immer signed my copy and exclaimed how rare it is, he said “we definitely need to repress this”. So there’s hope out there for all those fans without a copy…

I got a copy against my better judgment, and at first I was pretty pleased. But on 2nd listen, there is a deeeep sub rumble that comes and goes throughout the record. I’ve never had this happen on any LP before, and it’s pretty distracting. It’s extra noticeable on “colorblind.” I have a subwoofer and you may not notice it if you don’t have one.
