Agustus Pablo* – King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown

Pressing is faultless. Mastering OK.
This was never an Audiophile recording in the first place, but baby I love you so.
Recommend.

Second on ossulton's review: absolutely perfect, and having owned one of the earlier Message/Shanachie reissues back when I can vouch for those as well. Don't bother with any of the fake Clocktower reissues, which are all needle drops from an off-center vinyl (even the one on Spotify is like this): the Message/Shanachies are flawless.

Great album and a very nice sounding pressing, especially for a JA pressing. Minor background crackles here and there, but nothing bad enough to distract from the music. Super happy to have this since an OG is just out of my price range - I can’t imagine those sounding much better than this pressing.

I don't really notice the off center thing until towards the end of B5, but definitely on B6, progressively through the track. To my weird ears, it kinda makes the dub sound even more surreal. Not a bad thing. I've heard much, much worse. I'm quite happy with how this pressing sounds, it's a foundational dub album and a top-tier release for both Pablo and Tubby, and the vinyl does it justice. The soundstage is rich and organic, with plenty of depth to the low end. My copy plays nice and clean, with no surface noise of note. Good stuff.

Poor source quality (sounds like it was sourced from a dirty LP) and poor pressing quality (warps, surface noise). Read up on dubious Abraham label. Avoid.

i bought this late 70s in Amsterdam. Its like U-Funk says, the sound is beautiful, especially for a Jamaican pressing - not clicks or pops, no pieces of paper sticking out between the grooves :-)

One of the best sounding records I have. If you see it for a good price, do not hesitate

My copy still has original shrink wrap with Barcode sticker (on the back): 0 93652 26071 7. Actually just realised I have the ‘pink splatter’ version

The sound on this version is fantastic and dynamic, though the pressing is a bit rough. Par for the course? I've had 5 different pressings and this is the best of them so far. I can't recommend it enough. Makes the French Yard pressing from 2019 sound very tame.
