You can instantly recognize the touch of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers...it brings people to the dance floor in a drop of a dime

Fine funky disco and R&B track with a catchy and fun beat to it. Space pop goodness! Sheila is from . -

This song was later used for Alcazar - Crying At The Discoteque - it shows how timeless this song was. -

I love have loved, "Spacer" by Sheila and B Devotion ever since it was first released back in 1980 and now its 2021 and I still love it. Produced by the very talented Mr Nile Rodgers of Chic adds that super catchy bassline through out this ultra infectious disco rockin unt the very end. -

Just read your comments on this record so I thought I'd check my version. It is the second version you describe, with the shortened instrumental breakdown after the guitar solo and the reprise of the song before fading. I've checked the matrix / runout etchings and they differ slightly from those shown for this release. On my version Side A is: CAR 128 A-3 2 D AQ (lyre symbol) and Side B is: CAR 128 B-3 D BQ (lyre symbol). Hope this helps -

The good year for this 12 inch single is 1979 not 1980 -

Two different UK released 7-inch edits of this single actually were issued, and yet there was no telling the difference between them as catalogue numbers were the same for both - which shared identical picture sleeves as well as labels. One edit was used on the radio (notably the official top 40 chart countdown) and faded out immediately after the guitar solo whilst another single version, of a slightly different length was available at the same time which featured a shortened edit of the 12" instrumental breakdown after the guitar solo before reprising the sung chorus again to fade. Anybody else shed any further light on this odd discrepancy?

Is this version better than the UK press?

Sheila (Annie Chancel), the french singer and B. Devotion (three African-American singers)
worked in team with the famous Chic (Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers )who produced this
1979's disco masterpiece. It is a hauntingly beautiful song with the hallmark Chic guitar riffs
in the background. The song provides over 6 minutes of great drumming and cool grooves in
a spacelike atmosphere.
"Spacer" tells of a woman's love for a gentlemanly "star-chaser" who acts as a protector of
the galaxy. He vigorously opposes oppression and is seen as trustworthy. The song says that
this man will be leaving on a mission tonight, thereby putting his life at risk. Despite what may
happen to him, the love between the singer and this man "will last beyond time and space".
More recently sampled by Alcazar's "Crying at the Discotheque" but also by Frank o' Moiraghi
with his "Show me (spacer)". A remix of Sheila's "Spacer" came out in 1998.
This single is a must in any Disco record collection!
