Cairophon

Profile:

Label and record company established in Cairo in the late 1930s / early 1940s.
The company emerged from the Egyptian branch of Mohamed Abdel Wahab, but some Lebanese ownership was retained.

During the 1940s and 50s Cairophon was the largest locally-owned record company in Egypt. Cairophon did not have its own record pressing plant, and all its recordings were sent abroad for pressing. When Soutelphan Records in 1960 it seems that he left Cairophon and transferred his resources to the new company.

The label Cairophon continued to exist after 1960 but now as part of the purely Lebanese company Cairophon (Beirut).
