PRS Ltd., Miramar/Wellington

Profile:

PolyGram Record Service Ltd. Was a record manufacturing company located in Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand. The plant operated under this name from 01 November 1978 until October 1984 when it closed down. Previously named Music Carriers (NZ) Ltd.
The plant operated four Philips automatic presses and one Lened dual 7" automatic press. The disc mastering studio used very old equipment including a Scully disc cutting lathe with Westrex cutterehead.

Lacquer cuts can usually be identified by "700", found stamped or etched into the runout area of records. The plant occasionally pressed records for Australia. On those records you may also find 700 or 150 as numbers. A typical characteristic for Miramar pressings are the elevated outer ring, close to the edge of the label starting at about 87mm diameter, with an inner ring of about 30mm diameter. See photo.
