Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd.

Tōkyō Shibaura Denki (東京芝浦電気株式会社; Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd.) was a Japanese electronics giant, formed in 1938 through a merger of Tōkyō Denki Co., Ltd. (東京電気株式會社, Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd.) and Shibaura Seisakusho Co., Ltd. (芝浦製作所株式會社, Shibaura Manufacturing Co., Ltd.). From 1955, the company started selling records. The company operated a record label, Toshiba Musical Industries Ltd.

The company officially became known as Toshiba Co., Ltd. in 1978.
