Lex Records

Profile:

Lex Records started as part-time hip-hop-oriented imprint of Warp Records, started by Tom Brown in 2001. Quickly, it grew beyond limited EPs and one-off 12"-inch singles in the "Lexolea" house-sleeve to releasing full albums (thanks to Boom Bip and Non-Prophets) and slowly g its own roster of long-term artists.

By 2005, Lex was a full-sized indie label with a roster including Danger Mouse, Boom Bip, Fog and Subtle. Early in 2005, Warp bosses Steve Beckett and Kev Fleming agreed to sell the company to Tom allowing Lex to become truly independent.

The companies split on good and Lex is still being ed by Warp's distribution including Warpmart and Bleep.

Rob Young's book “Warp” confirms that the catalogue numbers 008, 011, and 013 were unused.
