Rainbow Theatre London

Profile:

The Rainbow Theatre (former names Finsbury Park Astoria Theatre (1930–39), Odeon Astoria (1939–70), The Odeon (17.11.1970–71) and then Rainbow Theatre 4.11.1971–24.12.1981) – is a Grade II-listed building, in the Finsbury Park area of North London. Built as a cinema in 1930, it later became well known as a music venue in the 1960s & 1970s. Rainbow Theatre closed on 24 December 1981 and the building lay empty and largely disused for the next 14 years. In 1995, the building was taken over by its current owners, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, a Brazilian Pentecostal church, who began work restoring the building and turning it into a church.
