In 1978 MCA bought the studio from Lorin Whitney. It was then named MCA Whitney Recording Studio.

The studio (Originally the "Haven Of Rest Radio Studio") was named "Whitney Recording Studio" after it's founder in the 1950s, Lorin Whitney. Before the studio was acquired by MCA it housed the Whitney pipe organ, played on many releases by Lorin Whitney, often accompanied by the Haven Of Rest Quartet.
