Founded by Bill Armstrong (6) in 1965, the studio was located over a number of properties in Albert Rd, South Melbourne, moving to a warehouse in Bank St, Melbourne, in 1972.

The studio was renamed in 1974 to AAV (Armstrong Audio/Video) when it was bought by the Age Newspaper Group.

At some point afterwards (probably in the 1980s), the studio was renamed Ern Rose). A controlling share was then bought by the Celtex audiovisual company in 2005, but after Celtex got into financial difficulties, the studio closed in 2006.
