Columbia Records Inc. owned the original trademark to the specific term "LP", introduced by its board president, (Ted) Edward Wallerstein in 1948.The LP record was created by Columbia's president Edward Wallerstein (1948–1959) and he was instrumental in its formulation. He had actually created the idea and design back in 1933 for Victor Records but the concept and production at the time using heavy pick-ups failed and was withdrawn from the market by Edward himself. He took the failed idea and presented it to Columbia who were able to make it a success.
