UML

Profile:

Universal Music Group Manufacturing & Logistics Inc. Operating under this name from October 1999 until May 2005.
CD manufacturing plant in Grover/Kings Mountain, North Carolina, USA.

Established on 01 October 1999 after renaming EDC, USA, Entertainment Distribution Company LLC.

Mastering SID codes: IFPI L005, IFPI L006, IFPI L007, IFPI L009

UML USA CDs can be identified by IFPI Mould SID Code 03xx which were inherited from PMDC, USA. As such, please do not credit UML based purely on the SID codes presented. The plant is also identifiable by "Made in USA by UML" or "UML" being printed on the CD or CD matrix.

Vigilance needs to be advised as it has come to light that some releases recorded and/or released after UML was purchased by EDC may credit "MADE IN USA BY UML" in the clamping ring (mould/hub) as seen on:
[2005]
· Billy Currington - Doin' Somethin' Right
[2006]
· Alecia Nugent - A Little Girl...A Big Four-Lane
[2007]
· Bucky Covington - Bucky Covington
[2008]
· Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded
[2009]
· Dry Branch Fire Squad - Echoes Of The Mountains
[Other]
· Various - Bossa Nova (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) [between 2005 and 2007]
It is probably wise to mention this in the release notes in these cases and avoid crediting UML.

The 4 x Universal logo in the outer hub was introduced by Universal Music Group in 2004 to signify CDs manufactured for the Universal Music labels and companies.

The plant featured prominently in Stephen Witt's 2015 non-fiction book How Music Got Free which chronicled the rise of the warez scene in the late 1990s/early 2000s and a two-part documentary based on the book released on Paramount+ in June 2024.
