The label began in 1977, when Gary Klebe and brothers Jeff and John Murphy recorded their album "Black Vinyl Shoes" in their living room. They began the label to put out their own album which was limited to 1000 copies. Later PVC Records released it domestically. Although their label continued to release their own recordings, the label signed other artists including the Spongetones, The Critics, 92 Degrees and Nicholas Tremulis' Band.
