wmfono

Profile:

Optical media and vinyl record pressing plant, established 17 Aug 2017 in Warszawa, Poland (EU), after the acquisition of GM Records (3). Vinyl records were pressed by 2 Lened and 7 Hamilton American presses.
In 2021, the company was sold to the company XDiSC along with the land, buildings and machinery, and wmfono ceased to exist.

Vinyl identification:
The runout matrix scheme is *******-xy,
****** is a 6 digit number (latest known series : 103*** and 104***)
"x" identifies the disc side (A, B,....) and
"y" is the ordinal number of the master cut (first A side cut = A1, second A side cut = A2, etc).

The six digit metal part number can be accompanied by either "WMF" or another text, in accordance with the client's request.
Note: Often the matrix also shows "MONOPR". This identifies the broker who ordered the pressing and should be credited as Made By role only.

CD identification:
The matrix number scheme is dd######mm, where
dd is the date of the glass mastering day (01 - 31),
###### is a 6 digit matrix number (where # can be 0 to 9),
mm identifies the glass mastering month (01 - 12).

Examples:
• 0408731504 means that the glass was mastered on 4th of April (2018) (Inner Vision Laboratory - Relics)
• 1908353809 means that the glass was mastered on 19th of September (2017) (Arcana - Petrichor)
Note: The year cannot be derived from the matrix number.

When trying to credit the correct name of this plant on 2017 releases, the dd and mm glass mastering date in the matrix number can help direct you - any date before 17/08 belongs on GM Records (3); any date after that day belongs on wmfono.

When entering wmfono matrix numbers into LCCN, the full dd######mm part of the string should be entered. Example:
• Glass Mastered At – wmfono – 0808523612 (Abysmal Grief - Blasphema Secta).

Mastering SID codes: IFPI LT57 and IFPI LT58.
Mould SID codes: IFPI Z901 to Z905, IFPI Z908, IFPI Z909, IFPI Z911, IFPI Z912, IFPI Z915 to IFPI Z918, IFPI Z920 to Z932, IFPI Z934, IFPI Z935, IFPI Z938 to IFPI Z974 and IFPI Z980 to Z982.

Notes:
a) Also appears as www.wmfono.com in matrix
b) Often the matrix also shows "Monotype Pressing". This identifies the broker who ordered the pressing and should be credited as Made By role only.

All of the records I own pressed here (nine albums) have inner groove distortion and honestly just are sloppy cuts. At least they weren't off center or dished or scratched... at least my copies. Not surprised they didn't last very long, the only reason they were used were because Polish labels wanted to use a Polish pressing plant.
