CBS Records Canada Ltd.

The Canadian branch of Columbia/CBS, operating under this name (and French name Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd. 1954-1976). Headquartered in Don Mills suburb of Toronto since 1960.

NOTE: On most Canadian releases, the company name appears in both English and in French, In these cases, please credit both entities in LCCN and state in release notes where to find which version.
Some Francophone releases will only have the French name of the label on them.

CBS Records Canada Ltd. / CBS Disques Canada Ltée printed date codes on their vinyl 12" releases from ca. 1977 to ca. 1989. The codes appear on the spine or in the fine print on the back cover preceding manufacturing credits. Not all releases have the date codes printed on them. The format is a letter followed by one or two digits indicating month and year as follows:

A = January
B = February
C = March
D = April
E = May
F = June
G = July
H = August
I = September
J = October
K = November
L - December

7 = 1977
8 = 1978
9 = 1979
80 = 1980
81 = 1981
82 = 1982
83 = 1983
84 = 1984
85 = 1985
86 = 1986
87 = 1987
88 = 1988
89 = 1989

In some cases there may be a space (e.g., C 82) , a slash (e.g., D/87) or a dash (e.g., K-85) between the letter and the numbers - please enter as it appears on release in the BaOI section as Other. It is helpful to enter where it appears on the release (spine or back cover) in the description field. If there is no other conflicting information on the release, it is acceptable to use the date code for the month and year of release.
