Originally officially called "Finnvox – Lejos Oy:n äänitekninen osasto", founded in 1965 by Erkki Ertesuo in collaboration with the multi-field company Lejos Oy. After the death of Kurt Juuranto, the managing director of Lejos, in the mid-1980s, the companies were separated, and the name changed to Finnvox Oy. The current manager is Risto Hemmi.

The building itself, consisting of studio A and the mastering facilities, was finished in November 1965. At the time, the staff consisted of Ertesuo, Ilpo Koivunen, Fredi, on November 8, 1965 he recorded "Roskisdyykkarin balladi" and "Pikkusiskon papukaija". The second part of the building was finished in 1967, and since then the amount of studios has grown to 9.

The company also had a vinyl pressing plant (1966-1995), and they also did vinyl cutting and cassette duplication (1974-1998). The last LP to be pressed at Finnvox was Sähkömies by Jimi Tenor, on August 19, 1994. The last vinyl singles were pressed a year later. During the 1970s, the owner Lejos also had a printing company near by, Finnvox Lamiprint Oy. In the 1990s Finnvox and Lamiprint were split into separate companies.
