Eighties-themed series created in 2009 by Blank & Jones.

While Blank & Jones were digging in their 80s Vinyl Collections some time around 2009, they were so inspired that they wanted to enjoy the one or the other 12" single more regularly, possibly in the car, at a kitchen party etc. So Blank & Jones started looking for them on CD and were surprised that not many 80s compilations featured their beloved 12" format. Most of them used vinyl rips. So step by step they developed the so8os [so eighties] concept. The most important fact would be, beside a strictly subjective song choice, the sound quality. To them it only makes sense to release CDs or high resolution digital formats when the source is the original mastertape and not a vinyl transfer.

In 2015, in response to complaints about "brickwall" mastering (affecting the main series volumes 1 through 7), the first four volumes were reissued with quieter mastering, and with a couple tracks replaced with masters from better sources. However, these CDs are only sold online via the Blank & Jones webshop, and can only be shipped to European addresses.

In mid-2016, Piet Blank said that due to expired licenses, there will be no further physical reissues of the first five volumes; licenses to manufacture the CDs generally only last 3 years. The first four volumes were issued in conjunction with EMI, who will continue to offer the brickwalled digital editions. Those digital editions have only EMI artists on them.
