The first few releases (Now Dance, Now Dance 1986, Now Dance 89, Now Dance 901, Now Dance 902 & Now Dance 903) were a cheap and easy way to collect 12" versions of popular dance/pop tracks. Granted, a few tracks are edited and the odd 7" version found its way in, but for the most part they were excellent value. The cassette & vinyl release of Now Dance '92 are also worth mentioning as they include a few 12" versions plus the only lawful way you can buy the Madonna vocal of "Shake Your Head" by Was (Not Was).
Unfortunately the vinyl versions of Now Dance and Now Dance 86 have very poor sound quality (IMO). Better to seek out an actual 12" pressing of these tracks or get them from other compilations. I cannot comment on the quality of the cassette versions.
Sadly with Now Dance 91, and also Now Dance 93 onwards, the series just became a set of generic dance compilations stuffed with radio/short edits. As a result, there was nothing to distinguish them from all the other dance compilations around at the same time.
