I noticed the same thing. Maybe that album was the bonus disc some of us are going to receive, and someone ed it on Bandcamp by mistake, and then took it down again, after the email about it was sent out? -

Too much 'one (lenght) track album' for me. I'm not fan of this, especially reg the total price. Perhaps the artist needs 1 hour to express his feeling in one track but i prefer 5 or 6 10mn/15mn tracks on one album. -

This is a matter of taste and only your opinion. Many ambient artists generally use this form. And as Variant is more or less an ambient / ambient Techno Project of Steve, it is obvious he choses this length. There are many who like this approach because it lets you drift away for an entire hour. Enough time to build up a theme. -
Show this post
For sure this is my opinion as this is a forum and i believe that we can share our opinion:)
I know that there is an artistic interest in the developement of one track album (more time, more space for expression etc...). But this is too much for me: instead of 1 LP with 6 tracks (like before) at 25$ we have now 6 lenghts tracks at 18$ each. I would like to follow but i can't. I believe that it's not only for artistic facility. But this is the game. -

I get your point and maybe he is releasing so much of this stuff to make some money. However, each of the releases are high quality music and not just quantity of quality. And if he makes a bit of money with them to reinvest it into music and thus be able to continue with the label, I'm more than fine with it. -

You are right, i share your point of vue reg the economic viability of the label. He's a nice artist also. I have to find a better paid job! -

without any further thoughts, i instantly ordered the two Variant releases. this, to me, is the most important project of all those Echospace incarnations. from my point of view, because I am more into ambient than ever before and Variant is the perfect materialization of ambient/deep techno music. I listened to the "Aurora's Dream" (the first) CD so many times (The Solar Version), it is indescribable.
about the length. i totally love this. this is the best way to express a long journey, taking care about every little detail. a lot of ambient artists use this way of production, because they take care about the perfect pattern and a thought out structure. Why? Because those artists have a lot to tell through music. it wouldnt make sense to limited yourself. And what i can tell you from my own point, is: it is not that easy to prepare such a long session, you have to go through a lot of processes before and after..
Our label was requested to make a remix for Coppice Halifax and I discussed it. Brian told me with just a few words this: "It is so liberating". That left a huge impact and these few words tell everything possible and express the feeling the best way what's going on with you as an artist. (Thanks, Brian!)
Variant forever. -

Variant is the most evocative echospace project for me, and the most I feel attached to. seems like Steve has finally decided that the time to give the world his most intimate project, to give this gift fully, has come, or I might be wrong of course.
don't see the difference between a CD (esp scarcely packaged/designed in echospace's case) and digital nowadays though. and, money is the issue too, currency rate in my country is a shame.
so it's a bit too much for me lately for both financial and musical reasons, but, I just let all the things be. viva echospace! -

Hey guys, great to see some new releases coming out from Steve, feel sure he will be pushing it to the limits as always. Strange to hear he ran into some problems in the manufacturing of the last series of releases - very unlike our Steve normally he is all over it like a rash and we get our orders promptly and for a reasonable price. But good news we are gonna get some Eco - friendly prints of images captured by NASA (in case you didn't realise NASA are a completely eco-friendly outfit apart from that rocket fuel and space rocket build stuff) so we can transcend and feel all other worldly and be guilt free at the same time. Thankfully it looks like we got a European Tour - tho I could of swore that the EU was bigger than the very limited amount of countries mentioned. Sure that Steve wouldn't let us down and live up to that North American stereotype and call a continental tour a spattering of dates in a couple of countries. Just reading again about Variant evoking various celestial phenomena no honest its in there I am not joking it really says that - I mean I'm all for that sh*t even if I am not sure what it means but it sounds great and I think steves great and Rods a God and he is the Chord Lord????? so I wouldn't even question if this stuff is on the level or if someone were taking the piss in a major way and charging me a lot of money to buy his albums. Looking forward to the releases though - can't imagine what they might sound like - hour long variant releases its gonna be fresh and breaking boundaries left right and centre. Very excited at this end. -

To me one track or 20 tracks doesn't make a difference so long as the overall duration equals an album or EP.
What still bothers me is how they keep posting new material with no audio samples as if to say we are gods that don't need to play by any rules, we'll get the money regardless. And obviously they are lol.
"Pyralis" interested me most mainly because of the cover art, but I wanted to wait until an audio sample was up and sure enough it is now SOLD OUT already -.-

When I ordered there was definitely an audio sample up, which was part of the reason I ordered it. Their strategy might not be right by everyone but i sort of agree that it's hard to assess these long player pieces from a small sample. I ordered the new Borderland project on sight and there were no audio samples provided. To each their own when it comes to what and how you buy music. I would prefer they do another 9-10 track album again but I also haven't been let down, all the variant stuff has been ace imho, as for my bank it's been hard to keep up with. -

Two different tracks on my two discs, however the duration on mine does not follow the Discogs listing (edited by our very own pinkspace):
1-01 Thru The Cosmos [Apogee] 58:41

Received a reply 2 mn ago:
We have been working diligently to get to the bottom of this situation. It has been brought to our attention by customers and going over log reports, it looks like all of the copies were duplicated with the wrong file by our archaic Disk Makers duplication tower. Our sincerest apologies. We discovered the source of the problem was a faulty hard drive. The hard drive was corrupted and ripped the wrong content, it was relabeling files and creating redundant ISO and BIN's (disk images) renaming over the same file source without our knowledge. We have now replaced the hard drive and will be duplicating the CD's over the weekend after Disk Makers tech send us the new OS to get this unit functional again. You will receive a replacement copy with your next shipment. For now, the digital files will be available this evening. Apologies for any confusion.
You are indeed correct, "Pyralis" is in fact the Disk 2 content of Sequential Sleep, it was still stored when we duplicated to send the pressing plant, it essentially used the same audio but renamed the file with the same content! We're so frustrated right now... :(
We also held on Sequential Sleep as we were back and forth with the pressing plant about the proof's as an earlier version was used instead of the revised one. We're still not sure how this happened BUT to our dismay there isn't much we can do about it at this stage as it's already been shipped and paid for. Given the small amount run and the substantial cost it was to manufacture, it would put us in a serious financial hole to run this entire job again and the plant aren't taking responsibility for it. They agreed to replace the vortexual CD's as they came in without the custom floods/knockouts on the disk faces which we pay quite a bit more to have done and it's part of the artwork and vision of the project. Going back and forth with the pressing plant on those wasn't easy, it took nearly 3 weeks of debate and conversation to get them to replace the jobs. That's the last time we'll be working with them on any project, this truly has been a nightmare for us but trust we're doing all we can to rectify this.
Thanks again for your warm Jerome, greatly appreciated on this end!
Warm Wishes and have a lovely weekend,

Couple of things - firstly amazed that anyone noticed duplication of a track. He's been doing it for years, just adds a word to the title and makes it longer sticks on leopard skin vinyl and overprices it and they fly out like hot cakes consistently get 5 star reviews. So gotta wonder if they was just checking if anyone was actually listening! Love that people have to look at the file to know if they got a different song - c'mon guys that just ain't right.
Secondly not that surprising that yet again Steve and Echospace make a complete balls up of the process from artist to listener. In all my years of buying and listening I cannot think of another single artist or label that fails to deliver on such a consistent basis - piss up and brewery come to mind. Enjoy the (duplicated) tunes or maybe just stick your old releases on random you won't tell the difference either which way. x -

I understand your respective positions. Many things were done to improve Echospace's service these last 2 years. I mean that a recording label like this one must be professionnal on every aspects: communication, control quality etc...
I prefer to see Stephen trying to run his label and see him releasing music after all, even if there are some problems. How many artists i love are not releasing music because they don't rule their own production or at least 1 album every 10 years when they find a label on another structure! I think also about Rhythm & Sound defunct label or Mr Cloudy...

I appreciate the vote of confidence, thank you. Though really, what's happening to Steve right now can happen (and has) to any label that duplicates their own discs. I have an old Imation D20 duplicator, and two five-disc dupe towers, and I've had strange burning errors and software fallout with them from time to time. It sucks, but this is ultimately one of the biggest downsides to doing almost everything yourself, although in Steve's case even Discmakers jobs have gone bad. I had enough bad experiences with them back when David Tagg and I were still running Install, that I've only used places like Mixonic and Easydisc since then for pro jobs. Cheaper, and from what I can tell, the same or better quality. Discmakers outsources all of their short run jobs to other companies anyway, this is why they are so shit when something goes wrong, and why there never seems to be any consistency unless you're pressing 1000+.
And anyway, Treeant, I'd challenge you to immediately identify the same material played back in the first week of listening, on any longform ambient record with multiple hour long tracks. Hell even a lot of techno records going back decades would give you a challenge there, if the runtime is long enough and you're not skipping any tracks... I'd say everyone's ears are pretty good considering they worked out that something was wrong within only a few days of the music landing on their doorsteps.
Having had a lot of money go into this label, and even more time and energy devoted to these releases, I think it's best said that the highs in Echospace, for me, are so beyond the normal levels of gratifying listening, that it completely overshadows the lows like these technical errors, or lengthy shipping waits. As ever, it's your money and time so what you personally get out of that is up to you. -

I just discovered a new problem:
1 min and 02 sec into "Land of the Low Flying Clouds" there is a clearly audible "glitch" on my CD.
Could anybody please check if they have the same problem on their copy of that CD?
Me too, but nothing bad...
I don't know, man. I'm paying $18.00 USD for a faulty CD-R. Slightly absurd, if you ask me. -

I am not hearing any sort of glitch on my copy, It must be your CD itself, maybe there's a scratch? I've listened to this album the most of all the new stuff I received and all I hear is some sort of field recording at this measure. It sounds like wind blowing and the crackling of fire or something. This project is my personal favorite of all the new material, it's really beautiful from start to finish. -

I mean, on my copy this is a micro glich only, not as bad as your (little more than the click & cuts musical background). I noticed it after reading your message.
So you have the right to ask for a replacement to the label. That's said, this CV313 Live is a killer album, a very nice and dynamic set.
