American songwriter and pianist (born Max Edmund Kohn, October 20, 1900 in St. Louis, Missouri – died April 1981)

Collaborating with George Whiting and Abel Baer, Campbell had a hit with "High Upon A Hill-Top" in 1928.

Around 1945, he moved from New York to the San Francisco area, where he worked as a professional pianist out of San Mateo. In 1955, for example, he regularly played at The Carriage House in Millbrae.

His son is Michael Campbell, author of "Popular Music in America: The Beat Goes On."
